Grade 10 Community Service Project: Mediterranean Sea and Monk Seals

Richard Bampfylde

A display has been in place for several weeks now outside of the Rockefeller on Ras Beirut's campus. Grade 10 students wished to raise awareness on the Mediterranean Sea and its rich biodiversity, a biodiversity which is suffering now in the 21st Century. An eye-catching model was created highlighting the plight of monk seals in the Med, with only a very small number now left in the sea. The Med includes more than a thousand different marine life species but many of those are now under threat, in part due to the building of the Suez Canal and the migration of non-native species into the Sea.
