Performing Arts

As part of IC's curriculum,  the music department gives the students the opportunity to learn about, explore, experience, perform and enjoy music. We believe that music helps create confident global citizens able to appreciate the musical world around them.

The music program runs from preschool to Grade 11, with some students even able to take classes in Grade 12 within the French Baccalaureate (Terminale).

Our program includes music from Lebanese and Middle Eastern cultures to the accompaniment of many instruments.

We also concentrate on vocal, instrumental and theoretical skills necessary for aesthetic enrichment and creative musical expression.   Our 'ensembles' music sessions foster teamwork and cooperation as students learn to listen to and appreciate each other.

Outside the classroom, IC choirs, dance and band performances are very active. Choir and performing arts clubs allow students to showcase on stage their talents in singing, playing musical instruments, interpreting and/or dancing.

The music department is also very active off campus as choirs take part in the NGO Ayadina Benefit Christmas Concert.  The school also participates in “Zeki Nassif Choir Competitions” and the “Rencontre autour de la chanson Francophone.”

IC's music department has been part of the Association of Music in International Schools (AMIS) since 2003, and choir students take part regularly in three festivals annually: the Honor Boys' choir, the Honor Girls' Choir and the Senior Honor Mixed Choir.  Each experience gives them the opportunity to meet with musical peers from around the globe and sing together under the direction of professional conductors.

At IC, we believe that “music is not what we do but who we are!”
