The community we live in was a focus for both CP-Grade I and CE2-GradeIII Ain Aar students through two different units of inquiry. Can we consider our school as a macro-community? How does it function? What is our role as “artists” in our community? What better way to answer these questions than through a common project between the two levels. We were able to discover hands-on the rights and responsibilities of each member of this community and how to interact with each other harmoniously.
Together, we came up with the idea to use recuperated plastic sheets on which the students drew and colored bright motifs. These sheets were then baked and formed into twirling colorful shapes. The two levels got together and in pairs chose the sequence and style of the wooden beads and plastic sheets combined to create these mobiles.
The result, a beautiful array of mobiles decorating a corner of our school.
