Tweet is Learning Tool
Posted 01/07/2016 08:24AM

RBE students in Grade 5C are using Twitter to gain new perspectives, summarize their learning, and share ideas. It is an opportunity for them to use social media in a format other than sharing selfies. Students joined, with approval of their parents, and their activity is monitored by both the teacher and parent to make sure the children are practicing safe and responsible digital citizenship. One special challenge that the students have is to Tweet a summary of the key learning that happened in class on a particular day. Since Tweets can only be 140 characters, the Tweeting student must try hard to get as much as they can in the limited space. They’re also learning how to appropriately hashtag # Tweets in order to link them with others and as another means of summation. In keeping with IC’s objectives, this venture promotes effective communication and creative expression. #digitalliteracy
