1 B Wonders!

Leila Shatila creates a sense of belonging in the classroom environment at the Elementary School of Ras Beirut using a specific ritual. Once inside, the space sends positive vibes of “this is your space, you belong here!”

One of those is “1B Wonders”, a painting that represents how the children express themselves through collaboration and creativity. “The children cooperated in small groups to work on painting themselves through smooth discussions of who they are…Drawing and painting are experiences and explorations of creativity, construction, inventions and life! Children become familiar with the images they have in mind and they learn how to make them visible and alive.”

Thomas Sergiovanni (1992) defined community as “people who work in the same place (a community of place), feel a sense of belonging and obligation to one another (community of friendship), and are committed to a common faith or values (community of a mind).”Together,” concluded the teacher,” as a team, we created a solid bond for our classroom community.
