CIVIC COMMITMENT AND SERVICE LEARNING

At IC, the Community Service and Service Learning Program is a vital component of the school's mission to develop responsible global citizens who are not only academically competent but also socially conscious, compassionate, and committed to positive change. This program is deeply rooted in IC’s values of Inspire, Grow, Lead, encouraging students to engage meaningfully with real-world issues while cultivating empathy, civic responsibility, and leadership.

Rather than treating service as a mere requirement, IC embraces a Service Learning model, a progressive educational approach that combines learning objectives with community engagement, allowing students to apply academic knowledge and personal skills in practical, impactful ways.

HIGH SCHOOL CCSL

Annual NGO Fair

As part of its commitment to fostering civic engagement and social responsibility, the High School Civic Commitment and Service Learning Team organizes an Annual NGO Fair for Grade 11 students. The event provides students with the opportunity to meet representatives from a wide range of non-governmental organizations operating in diverse fields.

Through this initiative, students have the opportunity to:

  • Gain insight into the mission and activities of participating NGOs;
  • Engage directly with representatives to inquire about their work;
  • Select an organization that best reflects their personal interests and aspirations.

In accordance with program requirements, each student is expected to complete a minimum of 15 volunteer hours with the NGO of their choice. This experience serves as an integral component of their holistic education, reinforcing the values of responsibility, respect, integrity, and empathy.

Launched in 2021, the Mobile Community Kitchen represents a pioneering initiative in Lebanon and remains unique among schools across the country. What began as an innovative initiative has evolved into a comprehensive project centered on the school’s community kitchen and its mobile extension, enabling students to extend their service beyond the school campus and make a tangible difference in their local community.

The primary objective of the project is to prepare healthy and nutritious meals and serve them to less-privileged communities, where students not only provide sustenance but also engage meaningfully with community members.

AwB is a student-led project, designed to foster student agency and empower learners to take ownership of meaningful projects. Through their participation, students acquire a range of essential skills, including teamwork, leadership, communication, and, for some, culinary skills, all of which contribute to their holistic personal and academic development.

Since its launch, the project has gained credibility and recognition, attracting the support and collaboration of partners, donors, sponsors, and partner caterers and restaurants. This support has strengthened the project, enabling students to expand its reach and impact within the community.

The Mobile Community Kitchen is firmly aligned with the school’s enduring values of empathy, integrity, responsibility, and respect. Moreover, it supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 1: No Poverty and SDG 2: Zero Hunger, reflecting the school’s commitment to nurturing socially conscious, engaged citizens.
