ATHLETICS

Athletics have been an integral part of IC since its founding in 1891 in Turkey. Rev. Alexander MacLachlan, IC’s founder, is credited with introducing the first intramural games in Turkey and was the driving force behind the popular annual interscholastic Field Day held in Smyrna (present-day Izmir).

More than a century later, athletics continue to hold a prominent place at IC. The school’s long history of achievements across team and individual sports has earned it recognition not only locally and regionally but also on the global stage.

The athletic program offers a wide range of disciplines designed to encourage students to challenge themselves physically and mentally, while developing teamwork through the school spirit. Athletics have become an essential part of school life across all divisions, attracting a large number of student-athletes, many of whom participate in multiple events locally and internationally.
