IC Publications
As we turn the pages of our February issue of Inside IC, we are reminded that education at IC goes far beyond the classroom walls, it is lived, shared, explored, and felt.
This month, we celebrate a truly moving recital that brought together our Ain Aar Grade 6 and 6ème students with students from the School of the Blind and Deaf. It was more than a performance, it was a beautiful expression of inclusion, humility, and the unifying power of the arts, a moment that reflected the heart of who we are.
Our students continued to explore the world around them through enriching cultural visits that deepen their understanding and broaden their perspectives. At the same time, our young changemakers are stepping forward with purpose, leading initiatives that promote sustainability and responsibility toward our planet. Their commitment gives us great hope for the future.
This issue highlights spaces that reflect modern pedagogy, environments where students engage their minds, their hands, and all their senses. These are classrooms designed not only to inform, but to inspire curiosity, collaboration, and creativity.
Athletics Season 2 was also in full swing. IC proudly hosted NESAC in Turkey, while our student-athletes represented us in competitions across Bahrain and Abu Dhabi. Their dedication, sportsmanship, and school spirit continue to make us proud on every field and court.
Beyond academics and athletics, our community spirit shines through in acts of generosity and shared dialogue, from students supporting other schools with book donations from our libraries, to parents coming together in thoughtful discussion around The Anxious Generation. These moments remind us that IC is not simply a school; it is a connected, caring community.
Thank you for being an essential part of this journey.

“I AM IC, a School’s Journey from Smyrna to Beirut”, traces the story of International College from its 1891 founding in the cosmopolitan city of Smyrna (today’s Izmir) to its present location in Beirut, Lebanon. The tale begins with Protestant Minister Rev. Alexander MacLachlan and his struggle to keep the school open through the tumult of World War I, the Greek-Turkish war and Turkish nationalism. The story continues with IC’s move to Beirut and its merging with the American University of Beirut’s Preparatory School. It was thought to be a safe move and one which would ensure IC’s survival. But once again, the school found itself having to find a way to live through the turmoil of Arab nationalism and the horrific 16-year Lebanese civil war while simultaneously struggling to become independent from AUB.
‘I am IC’, is a touching story of a school looking for a place it could finally call ‘home’.
"I just wanted to let you know that I thoroughly enjoyed reading your book. For a school to have survived in those turbulent and troubled times both in Turkey and Lebanon is a testimony of the faith the founding fathers and their successors had in their vision. You have beautifully managed to integrate the story of the school with the historical events of the time. I was also very impressed by the amount of research that went into your work. Without you much if IC’s history might have been lost forever. All in all, well done and congratulations."
