Dear IC Community,
It is with deep sadness that we bid farewell to our esteemed former Acting President, Dr. Edmond Tohme. Dr. Tohme was a remarkable individual who dedicated his life to education and left an indelible mark on our school.
During his tenure at IC, Dr. Tohme held many different positions, including Director of Admissions, Dean of Students, Associate Director at the Middle School, Director of the Secondary School, and Acting President. He was also the recipient of the National Order of the Cedar Award. Dr. Tohme was a sophisticated and refined man who spoke deliberately and thoughtfully, earning him the admiration of numerous educators over the years.
Dr. Tohme's leadership during the civil war was nothing short of heroic. He showed incredible courage and leadership, becoming part of a core group of administrators making difficult decisions and taking bold actions to keep our school running during a time of great turmoil and uncertainty. He and his colleagues fought hard to keep IC’s doors open, at times confronting and pushing out armed militia groups entering the campus grounds.
In 1986, with the untimely passing of then-IC President Alton Reynolds, Dr. Tohme assumed the position of Acting President and continued the search for a new campus location in Metn to build an ‘extension’ of IC.
Dr. Tohme's contributions to IC were truly exceptional, and his legacy will live on through the Edmond Tohme Outstanding Educator Award. This award recognizes an outstanding IC educator whose teaching and/or administrative career has been marked by significant contributions to IC’s mission and objectives.
On behalf of the entire IC community, I extend our heartfelt condolences to Dr. Tohme's family and loved ones during this difficult time. We will always remember Dr. Tohme's unwavering dedication to IC and his extraordinary leadership, which helped shape our school's future.
Rest in peace, Dr. Tohme. Your impact on IC and the world of education will never be forgotten.
Sincerely,
Joel Peinado
IC President
