How the LMC is organized

The LMC comprises of various collections which are located in different parts of the library and arranged differently.

Each resource has a spine label, which will help you to locate the 'address' of the book in the LMC.

Our books in English have a WHITE spine label

Our books in French have a YELLOW spine label

Our books in Arabic have a GREEN spine label.

Our collections are:

Non-Fiction / Documentaires

Fiction / Romans

Reference Books / Ouvrages de Référence

Biographies

DVDs

Magazines

Our Non-Fiction / Nos Documentaires:

The non-fiction section is located at the back of the library.

It is organised following the Dewey Classification system. This system allows libraries around the world to organize their collections according to subjects. For example: Art (700), Religions (200) etc.

Each book will bear the Dewey numbers on its spine, and the books will be shelved in numerical order.

The Dewey number is then followed by the 3 first letters of the authors surname.

Our Non-Fiction spine labels look like this:

To understand Dewey a bit more, let's look at the broad classifications:

The spine labels bear the prefix FIC (for Fiction), followed by the 3 first letters of the authors surname.

Our Fiction section spine labels are as follows:

The reference section is located at the back of the library and comprises of dictionaries, collected works, bibliographies, encyclopedias, atlases, etc.

These books are used to check facts or as a starting point for research. They cannot be taken out of the library.

The reference section is organised following the Dewey Classification system (see Non-Fiction section above).

The books' spine label will bear the Prefix REF, followed by the Dewey Decimal Number and the 3 first letters of the author's surname. They will also have a yellow sticker.

Our spine labels in the Reference Section are as follows:

The DVD section is located behind the Library front desk (or circulation desk).

All members of the IC Community are able to borrow DVDs from our collection.

Our DVDs are catalogued following the Dewey Decimal System.
