“Do other children play like us?”, “Do they have rules for their playground too?”, “Do they always follow these rules?”, “Why do some of the children not follow the rules?” and “What can we do to help?”
These are some of the questions the KGII students at Ain Aar asked in their inquiry into our need for rules. They observed the Nursery kids at play, collected data and sorted their findings. They deduced that children were behaving according to a system which they assumed is the set of rules on the playground. So they followed this thread of thought and interviewed the Nursery students and their teacher to find out what their playground rules are. The KGII inquirers then went to the playground during Nursery recess, this time to trouble shoot: “Are the Nursery children following the rules?”, “Why are some not?”. Being caring citizens of their community, they decided to help; they brainstormed possible solutions to make the playground a safer and more organized place for the Nursery students.
