The Process

Step 1: (Selecting the area and planning your research role)

1. Your teacher will assign you to a group of 4 to 5 students.

2. With your group members, choose one area to research.

3. Report your choice to your teacher and get her approval.

4. Collect several note-taking graphic organizer from your teacher.
You will use these to take notes as you research from the Internet and the printed resources in the library-media center. Keep them together in your group’s work file.

5. Read the assignment page for your specific area carefully to get a full understanding of what your group needs to do.

6. Each area has several parts. Decide which part you will work on.
You will be responsible for gathering information on only that part.

Step 2: (Gathering the information)

1. Use the Internet sources listed in your area to locate information about your question.

2. You should also look at general and specific encyclopedias as well as the non-fiction books on the Middle Ages. The librarian has placed them on the Reserved Shelf in the school library.

3. Find some pictures to add to your final presentation.

4. You may need to interview someone for information. Be sure to call them for an appointment. Have a list of good questions to ask them and thank them for their time.

5. Keep a list of all the sources that you used including any pictures you use. Your whole group will combine these sources into a Sources Cited page in your presentation.

Step 3: (Compiling the finished product)

1. Decide which presentation form your group will use for your final product.

2. Bring all your information together and plan your finished product with your group.

3. Write or make your part of the final product, proofread your written work, and add it to the final product.

4. As a group, edit and proofread your completed product for final presentation.

Step 4: (Presentation to peers)

1. Plan and prepare the oral part of your presentation to your peers.

2. Present your information to your class.
