International College is happy to offer a professional development program for teachers of Lebanese public and private schools, consisting of a wide variety of workshops conducted by I.C. teachers and administrators.

 

The program is in line with the commitment of International College and its Educational Resources Center to high quality education which it seeks to share with schools throughout Lebanon.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION

1 - Combining Teacher Evaluation and Professional Development

A presentation of a process that combines non-threatening evaluation and professional development for faculty. Focus is on methodology that promotes student learning. The teacher receives feedback from peers, students, and administrators based on a self-evaluation. There will be samples of evaluation and observation forms from teacher 'journals'.

 

Audience: Administrators/Department Heads

 

2 - College Counseling for Universities Abroad

Mr. Ajay Rao, Foreign Colleges' Counselor, Secondary School

Applying to colleges and universities in the United Kingdom, Canada or the United States can seem confusing for those used to the Lebanese system. To avoid such confusion, philosophies on university admissions, application processes, standardized tests and financial aid will be discussed. International environments and career opportunities will be explored. The presentation will also include information on methods for guiding students into higher education.

  3 -Teaching English Language through Literature

The objective of this workshop is to show how literary selections (verse and prose) may be used in teaching language (grammar, sentence structure, punctuation, word formation, word order, etc) in order to enhance comprehension and writing skills.

4 - Motivating Student Learning through Science and

     Environmental Activities

This workshop will focus on discovering different learning strategies in science and environment studies.  Participants will work on planning a lesson with both science and environmental components.

5 - Collaborating to Integrate Information Technology (IT) into

    the Academic Curriculum

This workshop is designed to assist academic subject-area teachers and IT instructors in collaborating to integrate IT into the academic school curriculum. Workshop participants are asked to bring written copies of students' activities or projects into which they would like to integrate IT.

6 - Assessing Oral and Written Work

In this workshop, teachers will explore and experiment with a variety of assessment techniques to be used for students' oral presentations and written assignments. Participants are requested to bring photocopy samples of uncorrected students' work.

7 - English Language Games in the Classroom

This workshop introduces teachers to a diversity of learning games and activities that can be used in their own classrooms. The materials to be use can easily be teacher-made. These hands-on activities tackle a variety of skills.

 8 – Coping with Anger: Stop, Think, Act

The objective of this workshop is to help promote a peaceful school community by feeling empathy with others, applying relaxation and problem solving techniques, and using conflict resolution strategies, in order for each individual student to fulfill his/her needs in a win-win situation.

This workshop will include evaluating and sharing our experience.

9 - Teaching Children How to Write Informational Text

The aim of this workshop is to show how teachers can teach children to write a number of informational forms of text across the curriculum.  These will include: recount, procedure, explanation and exposition texts. Teachers will be shown and presented with "take away" frameworks used in writing these texts. These frameworks will also enhance the comprehension and study of such texts.

 

Audience: Lower Middle and Elementary School Teachers

 10 - The Six Essential Goals of Art Education

Participants will be exposed to a detailed study of the goals of art education at all levels of teaching. Through slides, hands-on activities and a short video, focus will be placed on the different components of media and techniques, elements & principles of design, subject matter and creative expression, art appreciation, art history, and especially integration of art with other disciplines.

11 – "Papier Maché"

Participants in this workshop will have hands on experience in different "Papier Maché" techniques which can be used inside the classroom to create two and three dimensional projects.

 12 - Every Day Counts: Using the Calendar to Teach

      Mathematical Concepts

In this session, teachers are introduced to the usage of the calendar as an on-going yearly tool to teach and enhance mathematical concepts.

 13 - Using Thematic Instruction in the Early Years

Thematic teaching is one of the most exciting changes taking place in school curriculum today. It allows students to make connection between academic subjects. Participants will have hands-on experiences, as they get involved in planning lessons and activities.  Ideas and class experiences will be shared. Participants are requested to bring to the workshop: the scope & sequence of their curriculum and the units taught across the year.

14 – Apprendre à argumenter

L'apprentissage de l'argumentation implique trois sortes d'apprentissages complémentaires:

1.      technique (la maîtrise des concepts de base: le circuit argumentatif;  

     les modes de raisonnement/stratégies; l'énonciation);        

2.            apprentissage culturel (construire un point de vue; trouver  des arguments);

3.     apprentissage d'écriture (apprentissage de l'élocutio).

L'atelier portera sur leur mise en pratique.

15 - Le Discours Informatif

Cet atelier a pour but d'aborder les questions suivantes:

·        Comment le distinguer du discours argumentatif ?

16 – Compétences requises dans l'apprentissage des mathématiques

A travers une présentation pratique, ce stage est axé essentiellement sur quelques compétences telles que la construction et l'interprétation des organigrammes, l'interprétation de supports écrits et visuels ainsi que les compétences à acquérir pour un contrôle.  L'objectif étant bien sûr d'encourager les élèves à les utiliser dans l'apprentissage des mathématiques.

17 –Activités pour améliorer l'expression orale et écrite

L'objectif de ce stage est d'inciter les enseignants à ouvrir leur classe de langue à la presse et à les rendre capables de manipuler ce puissant outil.  Des activités pratiques et ludiques d'une grande variété seront présentées; elles se rapporteront à de nombreuses disciplines telles que la grammaire, l'expression orale, la production écrite, l'écriture poétique et l'éducation à la citoyenneté.

 18 - Introduction de la géométrie au cycle élémentaire (CP-CE1-CE2)

L'objectif de ce stage est de familiariser davantage les enseignants avec des activités pratiques et ludiques de géométrie qui pourraient être  d'un grand intérêt pour les élèves ainsi que différentes sortes d'évaluation : - l'évaluation basée sur l'observation                                                - l'autoévaluation.

19 -  Différentes façons d'enseigner et d'évaluer les sciences

Ce stage abordera les différentes méthodes  pour enseigner et évaluer  les sciences.  Il visera aussi  à éviter l'interprétation incorrecte par les élèves  de certains concepts  scientifiques

 20 - Les différents types d’écrits

Ce  stage propose une exploitation des différents types d’écrits au cycle 2.  Sachant que l'activité d'écriture permet à l'enfant d'avancer dans sa connaissance de la langue; c'est en écrivant qu'un enfant apprend à lire.  Ce stage abordera aussi l'importance de la pratique régulière de la lecture et de l'écriture.

21 - Lecteurs et producteurs d'écrits à la maternelle

 22 - Education musicale

       Mme Nada Shoucair, écoles maternelle et élémentaire, Ain Aar

La musique sert d'outil dans certains apprentissages comme le vocabulaire, la prononciation, la mémoire, les maths.  En effet, la musique aide les enfants à se détendre et à apprendre avec joie.  Ce séminaire est adressé aux professeurs de musique.  Les participants auront l'occasion de se familiariser avec de nouvelles méthodes et de gagner de nouvelles idées, utiles dans l'enseignement de la musique en classe.

23 - Apprentissage de la musique entre 3 et 6 ans

·        "Chant et percussion": Apprentissage d'une chanson accompagnée de percussions du corps et de percussions instrumentales.

·        "Solfège": Comment introduire les notes de musique à partir du rythme

·        "Danse": différentes techniques de danse

24 - Power Point

Le "Power Point" est un programme qui sert à présenter sur ordinateur un projet ou une leçon d'une manière claire et simple. Il est formé de diapositifs, où on peut intégrer des textes et des dessins qu’on peut animer et projeter sur un écran géant.

30. كيف نحضر المتعلم لدرس التربية الوطنية والتنشئة المدنية؟

 تتناول ورشة العمل هذه  عرض طرائق تساعد المتعلم على استيعاب وتحليل وتطبيق ما درسه في التربية الوطنية وذلك من خلال اكتسابه تقنيات عملية مثل عادات العمل ، ضبط الوقت ، الحفظ من خلال كتابة رؤوس اقلام ، الوظائف المنزلية ، وإجراء الامتحانات.

31. "ناس من ورق"

كيف نساعد صغارنا على الخروج من دوّامة حفظ التعابير المتوارثة في الوصف والانتقال الى تعبير شخصيّ يتميّز بالعفويّة وينبض بالحيويّة؟ هذا ما ستتناوله ورشة العمل هذه بالعرض والتطبيق والتمرين والنقد.

32. أدب الاطفال في مرحلة الروضات

الهدف من هذه الورشة هو تحبيب الأطفال باللغة العربية من خلال القراءة.  نسلّط الضوء على أهمية استخدام القصة كوسيلة لذلك بالاضافة الى الأشعار والأغاني والنصوص المتنوعة.  تتضمن الورشة عرض أنشطة عملية تطبيقية والعمل ضمن فرق صغيرة.

27. صياغة الأسئلة وعملية تقويم الامتحانات في الاجتماعيات

عرض  لطرائق صياغة الاسئلة في مواد الاجتماعيات مع التركيز على  تغطية الاهداف في المعلومات، القدرات، المهارات  والمواقف. كما يتضمن المشغل أيضا عرضاً لأهداف الامتحانات، أنواعها، عناصرها، وأمثلة متنوعة عنها.

28. كيف نتعامل مع الاثر الادبي : فهما وتعليما

يعنى هذا المشغل بتدريب الاساتذة على مقاربة النص انطلاقا من :

1        - قراءة الاثر الادبي  وتمثله

2        – اختيار الكفايات التي يمكن العمل عليها

3        - صياغة الاسئلة متدرجة بحيث تقود الى فهم النص متكاملا

4        –  وضع عناصر الاجابة

5        - النظر في امكانية تماثل المقاربتين في اسئلتهما : الشرح والامتحان

29. مئة فكرة وفكرة لتعزيز التعبير الكتابي للحلقتين الثانية والثالثة (الجزء الثاني)

يتضمن هذا المشغل دفعة جديدة من النشاطات الفريدة والمميزة تساهم في تطوير مستوى التعبير عند المتعلم بطريقة محببة وبعيدة عن الرتابة والإبتذال وقريبة من عالمه اليومي. وهي مكملة لنشاطات المشغل السابق لكنها في الوقت نفسه مستقلة عنها تماماً.

يتناول هذا المشغل ابرز الكفايات  الكتابية والشفوية، وتداول شروطها وغاياتها،

    كما يتناول الانماط التعبيرية من خلال نصوص قصيرة.

 

سيجري في هذا المشغل اعداد نموذج مشابه للامتحان الرسمي لفرع الاداب، والعمل فريقيا في  

الاجابة وتقويمها.
