5- Authentic Assessment: The Use of Rubrics and Performance Tasks in Language Arts, Math and Science

This workshop focuses on assessment through the use of two tools: Rubrics and Performance Tasks. These are powerful tools to motivate the student to work towards a higher-level of performance.
Rubrics and Performance Tasks inform and improve teaching. They provide criteria that can be used to determine excellent performance. They provide directions for teaching and goals for the students.
They can be adapted or created to fit almost any learning context or activity you value enough to include in your curriculum.
By the end of this workshop, you will be able to score a performance task in just few minutes.

6- Using Literature Circles in Middle and High School
Ms. Colleen MacDonell, Head Librarian
Literature Circles allow small groups of students to explore a piece of literature (novel, poem, article, short story) on their own. The experience is student-centered and student-controlled. Literature circles help readers to develop powers of analysis and criticism, while discovering the pleasures of sharing thoughts about books with their peers. Drawing on the work of Harvey Daniels and others, the presenter will explain how to organize literature circles in the language arts classroom. Several examples for use with Middle School and High School students will be modeled. The workshop will conclude with participants trying literature circles of their own, based on reading of short poems and stories that the presenter will provide.

Au terme de la formation, les stagiaires auront expérimenté quelques stratégies d'enseignement de la lecture qui forme avec l'écriture un couple inséparable! Stage extrêmement pratique puisque les participants découvriront ensemble – comme en classe – des textes de niveau de CM et les analyseront selon des techniques et des activités aussi simples qu'efficaces, de nature à motiver les élèves.

L'objectif de ce stage est d'inciter les enseignants à exploiter un texte de lecture d'une manière active en utilisant la pédagogie différenciée:

10- Creating Flash Animations for the Science Classroom

This workshop will introduce science teachers to Macromedia Flash as a multimedia design environment and will show them its capabilities in creating simple animations for the science classroom. The workshop is divided into two sessions: Session 1 will introduce the Flash user interface and its various design and animation tools through small activities about drawing, creating animations, importing multimedia objects, creating symbols, and exporting the product to a web page or as a standalone file. Session 2 will showcase several science-related animations that will be created throughout the session

16- Investigations on Students' Assimilation of Scientific Concepts

This video workshop examines current research on how students learn science. The program is structured as an experiment that investigates how a student's ideas change or do not change in response to a given teaching strategy. .In addition to the above, the workshop consists of the following components:

Activities to be completed either during or prior to the workshop

17- Classroom and School Science Projects and Activities

The workshop will provide teachers with various science activities that can be carried out in classroom or labs to enhance content knowledge of subject, process skills, and communication and writing skills.
In addition, school projects, science fair and interdisciplinary projects raise students' awareness to their global community. It encourages students to use scientific methods to solve these problems.
This will enable students to apply and relate what he/she is learning in class to real life situations.

يهدف هذا المشغل الى ايجاد الصلة بين الحروف والكلمات والوسيلة للتواصل مع الآخرين من خلال الكتابة والقراءة. نركز على اكتشاف الصلة بين الحروف بعد التعرف إليها منفردة بحيث تشكل كلمات وجملا تنقل إلينا المعنى من خلال القراءة. نبحث في تسهيل هذه العملية والانتقال بها الى مرحلة الكتابة، بحيث يجد المتعلّم نفسه يعبّر عن أفكاره تلقائياً بوصل الحروف وتأليف كلمات وإعادة ترتيبها للحصول على جملة تامة المعنى ومن ثمة التوصل الى كتابة فقرة صغيرة.

تتضمن الإدارة الصفية كل الترتيبات والتدابير التي تتخذها المعلمة كي تكون مهمتها ناجحة وأداء تلاميذها مثمراً. تتضمن هذه التدابير إدارة الصف، تنظيم الوقت، الإستفادة من المساحة، واستخدام المواد التعليمية. تسلط الورشة الضوء على بعض المشاكل وجعل جو الصف مريحا يغلبه التعلم والاداء وانغماس المتعلمين بالعمل.

20- تعليم اللغة العربية في مراحل الروضات والصف الأول الابتدائي

تتناول هذه الورشة مشكلة استعداد الطفل للانتقال من مرحلة الروضات الى الصف الاول الاساسي. كذلك تتطرق الى الحلول التي يمكنها تأمين جو ايجابي يجعل تعلم اللغة العربية أكثر متعة وسهولة.

يواجه تلامذة الحلقة الثانية من التعليم الأساسي صعوبات جمة في فهم مهارات كتابية متعددة وتنفيذها باستقلالية. لذلك يتناول هذا المشغل خطوات عمل منظمة تسمح لهم بتفكيك الصعوبات في مهارات التصميم ووضع رؤوس الأقلام والتلخيص وتبديل عناصر قصة.

22- كيف نسهل تعليم مادة القواعد ونوظفها في التعبير؟

يتناول هذا المشغل ايجاد طرائق تقرّب مادة القواعد من المتعلمين من خلال انشطة مختلفة :
- استعمال بطاقات ملوّنة ( وضع امثلة على اللوح تسهم في استخراج المتعلمين القاعدة).
- امكانية استعمال الكمبيوتر لاستقراء الامثلة واستخراج القاعدة.
- تعزيز القاعدة بتمارين شفوية وكتابية (العاب – اصغاء – نصوص).
كما سيتطرق المشغل الى التركيز على جعل التمارين ترتكز على وظيفة القواعد في التعبير والانطلاق من القاعدة للتعبير.

يهدف هذا المشغل الى تحديد الكفايات جميعها التي يلحظها المنهج الرسمي في المجال الكتابي خاصة، ثم معالجة كل كفاية على حدة توضيحاً: لطبيعتها، ومفهومها، وآليتها، وغايتها، وموقعها في درس يشرح أو امتحان يطرح.

24- التعبير الكتابي ونثر الشعر والتلخيص

يهدف المشغل الى تحديد أصول التعبير الكتابي فنياً بناء على الطرح المعطى في ضوء نمط محدد. كما يهدف الى تبيان الآلية الفضلى لعملية التلخيص، ثم تطبيق هاتين الآليتين عملياً على نصوص من المنهج.
