
International College is happy to offer a
professional development program for teachers of Lebanese public and private
schools, consisting of a wide variety of workshops conducted by I.C. teachers
and administrators.
The program is in line with the commitment of
International College and its Educational Resources Center to high quality
education which it seeks to share with schools throughout Lebanon.
These workshops are
supported by a generous grant from the United States Agency for International
Development (USAID).
Participants may register upon completion of an application form and payment of fees at the Educational Resources Center office in Beirut.
The ERC office is open on school days from 7:30 to 15:00. Since places are limited in each workshop, interested teachers are advised to register as early as possible.
The ERC reserves the right to cancel or postpone workshops in case of emergency or low attendance.

Members of the IC Secondary School Guidance Department will share access to resources available on the Internet to explore careers, majors, and university selection. Participants
will be oriented, step by step, to valuable college research sites.
They will also take a personality profile (up to a $300 value through some websites- free at this workshop), receive immediate results, and consider the implications of personality in major and career choices. The presenters will demonstrate priceless online college research, efficient compilation of information, the online college application option, and online storage of the CV and essays in progress.
International College's Student and Parent Guide will be offered as one model for communicating the process to students and parents. Finally aspects of the Secondary School's annual Milestone essay assignments will be explained, and participants will be led to the fun of writing a College Application Essay themselves. 13. Teaching and Integrating Language across the Curriculum

During this workshop, teachers will learn how to integrate meaningful language activities across the curriculum thematically. Strategies for applying purposeful talk, spelling, writing and reading in the classroom will be demonstrated and supported with a booklet of ready-to-use activities and charts. Throughout this workshop, participants will also explore the use of assessment rubrics as an alternative to percentage grades and will learn how this can help set expectations for student achievement.

14.The A to Z of Writing

The workshop will deal with almost every important aspect of writing at the upper Elementary and Middle school levels. The process of writing paragraphs and various types of essays will be introduced (including the sharing of various graphic organizers for the planning phase of the different writing genres). Journal and poetry writing will be made more interesting. Ways to link writing to themes and real life experiences will also be tackled. Throughout the workshop, cooperative learning structures to help manage group work will be dealt with.

15. Psychosis in Literature

Mental disturbance has provided literature with some fascinating characters. This workshop examines, among others, lady Macbeth, Esther Greenwood of the Bell Jar, Holden Caulfield of the Catcher in the Rye, Blanche Dubois of A Streetcar Named Desire and finally, the unforgettable Antoinette Cosway of A Wide Sargasso Sea, alias the mad woman in Jane Eyre. Participants will examine psychosis and its contribution to literature and will propose troubled literary characters for discussion.

This workshop will focus on effective ways to help students become literate within a balanced literacy framework that provides for reading, writing, and language development. The workshop stresses the importance of teaching students strategies to use during and after reading as well as vocabulary building strategies. It will also touch upon assessment tools in reading.

Le soucis de tout professeur étant de varier les supports afin d'atteindre toutes les compétences des élèves et de relier son enseignement à la vie réelle, le "PT" ou "Tâche à accomplir" est une activité conçue et orientée dans ce sens. En effet, à travers une approche systématique, l'élève apprend à appliquer les connaissances acquises dans un domaine particulier à une situation réelle. Cette tâche peut être accomplie de manière individuelle grâce à une grille d'évaluation détaillée, l'élève apprend aussi à corriger, améliorer puis évaluer ou noter son produit final. Ce type de tâche peut être utiliser en évaluation formative ou somative, à l'oral ou à l'écrit.

L'enseignement de l'orthographe a pour objectif de faire acquérir à l'élève des compétences d'ordre phonologique, lexical et grammatical et de l'initier à l'autocorrection afin qu'il soit capable à l'aide d'instruments d'écrire correctement un texte.

29. Argumentation, modes de raisonnement et stratégies

Il est indispensable, pour cerner le champ de la notion de « stratégie argumentative » de la distinguer des modes de raisonnement qui relèvent de la « tactique argumentative » plutôt que de sa stratégie. On pourrait définir la « stratégie argumentative » comme l'ensemble des « actions » et « moyens » successifs tendant à obtenir l’adhésion de l’autre. Ces « actions » procèdent de la « logique naturelle » (les modes de raisonnement), de la « typologie » des arguments (d'autorité, d'analogie, de causalité, de comparaison, de concession …) et des « genres intercalaires » convoqués. Enfin, cette notion implique que l’on s’intéresse davantage à la mise en scène textuelle de l'entièreté de ces actions : à leur disposition, plutôt qu’à leur structure même.

The presenter will demonstrate many small sided games (4 or 5 players per team) and explain how they can be incorporated into the P.E. curriculum. Small-sided games enable children to make progress in the important skills associated with team games such as basketball, football, hockey, softball and cricket. They are also vital for developing teamwork, tactics, fair play and understanding the organization of a tournament. Developing small-sided games is also an excellent way to overcome a lack of space or equipment in your school and keep a whole class active at the same time. This workshop will also demonstrate a comprehensive selection of warm-up activities.

يهدف هذا المشغل إلى عرض أنشطة مختلفة حول تطوير الفهم عند قراءة أي نص بحيث يقرأ المتعلّم بمساعدة أو بمفرده ثم ينتقل إلى تحليل الأحداث الواردة في النّص وربطها بحياته الشّخصيّة ثم يتّخذ موقفاً نقدياًّ منها. يتخلّل الورشة عدّة أنشطة عمليّة حول كل خطوة.

يتناول المشغل عرض نماذج شعريّة منوّعة تحاكي إهتمامات الأولاد ومشاعرهم وتشكّل حافزا لهم في التّعبيرين الشّفوي والكتابي، ودعما للمعلّم في تنويع مناهل المعرفة والإطّلاع.

80. استثمار الوسائل السّمعية والبصريّة في تدريس بعض الكفايات في اللغة العربية

تهدف ورشة العمل الى مساعدة المعلّم في كيفيّة استثمار الوسائل السّمعية (شريط مصوّر، أغنية، حوار) والبصريّة (لوحة فنيّة، شريط مصوّر، مقابلة تلفزيونيّة) لتدريس بعض الكفايات المقررة في المنهج الجديد (تدوين رؤوس الأقلام، كتابة محضر، كتابة تقرير، السّرد القصصي، الوصف بنوعيه، الرّسائل).

من المصطلحات الرائجة في مناهجنا الحديثة: أدوات الربط، قراءة الحواشي، قواعد وظيفية، بلاغة وظيفية، النسق الطباعي...
وهي ان جاز التعبير، كُفيات مستحدثة تلعب دوراً أساسياً في عملية فهم النص. فما هي هذه الكُفيات؟ وما دورها؟ وكيف تدرس؟ وهل لنا بنماذج عما سبق كلّه؟ هذا ما سيحاول المشغل أن يجيب عنه.

82. التّنويع في طرائق التّعليم، وتعليم درس متكامل

الإطلاع على سبع طرائق تعليم مختلفة، وتطبيقها كلها على نصوص في المنهاج المقرّر، أو على نصوص من خارجه. والغاية هي إدماج بعض هذه الطرائق، أو تطبيقها مفردةً بحسب النصوص والمراحل.
