schools, consisting of a wide variety of workshops conducted by I.C. teachers
and administrators.
The program is in line with the commitment of
International College and its Educational Resources Center to high quality
education which it seeks to share with schools throughout Lebanon.
These workshops are
supported by a generous grant from the United States Agency for International
Development (USAID).
Workshops will extend over 5 hours from 9:00 am to 2:30 pm

1. L'apprentissage de la démocratie à l'école.

Peut-on parler d'éducation à la démocratie dans le cadre scolaire?
Ce stage a pour objectif de réfléchir sur cette problématique en rapportant deux expériences:
1- l'une vécue au niveau d'une classe qui a systématiquement adopté une méthodologie de travail de groupes.
2- l'autre au niveau d'une école qui a accordé à la mise en place d'une structure de délégués de classe une importance particulière.
De ce stage bénéficierait tout personne occupant un poste de responsabilité dans un établissement scolaire mais surtout les professeurs, les premiers décideurs.

Members of the IC Secondary School Guidance Department will share access to resources available on the internet to explore careers, majors, and university selection. Participants will be oriented, step by step, to valuable research sites.
They will also take a personality profile, receive immediate results, and consider the implications of personality in major and career choices. The presenters will demonstrate online research, efficient compilation of information, the online application option, and online storage of essays in progress.
International College's Student and Parent Guide will be offered as one model for communicating the process to students and parents. Finally aspects of the Secondary School's annual Milestone essay assignments will be explained, and participants will be led to the fun of writing a College Application Essay themselves.

3. Aimer la musique au préscolaire

4. Artistes en herbe à la maternelle!

7. Comment amener les élèves à apprécier l’heure de musique

Le but de cette session est de faire de l'heure de musique un vrai plaisir éducatif et artistique. Cette session comportera des activités vocales avec accompagnement sur xylophones, petites percussions et des percussions corporelles. Une activité mettant en valeur la communication non verbale. Des activités d'improvisations dirigées sur instruments ou par la danse expressive.

This workshop will focus on effective ways to help students become literate within a balanced literacy framework that provides for reading, writing, and language development. It will present specific instructional approaches, including shared, guided and independent reading, interactive writing, writing as a process, and word study.
The workshop stresses the importance of teaching students strategies to use during and after reading as well as vocabulary building strategies. It will also touch upon assessment tools in reading.

9. Teaching and Integrating Language across the Curriculum

During this workshop, teachers will learn how to integrate meaningful language activities across the curriculum thematically. Strategies for applying purposeful talk, spelling, writing and reading in the classroom will be demonstrated and supported with a booklet of ready-to-use activities and charts. Throughout this workshop, participants will also explore the use of assessment rubrics as an alternative to percentage grades, and will learn how this can help set expectations for student achievement.

The workshop will tackle almost every important aspect of writing at the upper Elementary and Middle school levels. The process of writing paragraphs and various types of essays will be introduced (including the sharing of various graphic organizers for the planning phase of the different writing genres). Journal and poetry writing will be made more interesting. Ways to link writing to themes and real life experiences will also be tackled. Throughout the workshop, cooperative learning structures to help manage group work will be dealt with.
Teachers are encouraged to bring their course books with them.

11. Teaching the Research Essay in Middle and High School

One of the most complex tasks we ask of middle and high school students is that they write independent research papers. Drawing on previous experience with these levels in Canada and current work here in Lebanon, the presenter will take you through the process using recognized educational models. Cette formation sera composée d'une présentation des objectifs de l'enseignement du F.L.E., d'un cours "type" et d'activités ludiques à partir de supports divers (publicité, bandes dessinée, photos de famille, faits divers…).

15. Argumentation, modes de raisonnement et stratégies

Il est indispensable, pour cerner le champ de la notion de « stratégie argumentative » de la distinguer des modes de raisonnement qui relèvent de la « tactique argumentative » plutôt que de sa stratégie.
On pourrait définir la « stratégie argumentative » comme l'ensemble des « actions » et « moyens » successifs tendant à obtenir l’adhésion de l’autre. Ces « actions » procèdent de la « logique naturelle » (les modes de raisonnement), de la « typologie » des arguments (d'autorité, d'analogie, de causalité, de comparaison, de concession …) et des « genres intercalaires » convoqués. Enfin, cette notion implique que l’on s’intéresse davantage à la mise en scène textuelle de l'entièreté de ces actions : à leur disposition, plutôt qu’à leur structure même.

In this workshop the presenter will share her experience of working with preschool students and their teachers and go over parts of the PE program that was developed during the past two years.

21. Small Sided Team Games for Developing Physical Education Skills

The presenter will demonstrate many small sided games (4 or 5 players per team) and explain how they can be incorporated into the P.E. curriculum. Not only can small-sided games enable children to make progress in the important skills associated with team games such as basketball, football, hockey, softball and cricket : they are also vital for developing teamwork, tactics, fair play and understanding the organization of a tournament. Developing small sided games is also an excellent way to overcome a lack of space or equipment in your school and keep a whole class active at the same time. This workshop will also demonstrate a comprehensive selection of warm-up activities.
NOTE: All workshop participants must be prepared to physically take part in the games and activities being demonstrated.

In this method, thinking is divided into six different modes which help develop thinking skills.
