The Educational Resources Center at International College is
happy to offer a Creative Movement and Dance workshop presented by Mrs. Randa
Sabbah, Head of the music department at I.C.
The workshop will focus on how to apply the elements of movement and dancing in
every day learning and teaching. It will explore in depth all the elements of
dance as well as how to build a simple choreography and draw costumes that are
easy to make.
The workshop is designed for teachers desirous of increasing their knowledge of
how to teach using kinesthetic intelligence as a way of knowing. It is open to
teachers from all levels and subject matter to make their classes more
stimulating and more fun.
The workshop will consist of eight sessions covering all areas of dance concepts
and their application to math, language arts, science, social studies and other
arts. The sessions will present ideas and skills to make daily lesson plans more
inventive and the end-of-year class presentations more meaningful.
Session 1:
Overview of the elements of dance: space, time, force, form and movement
Creative dancing: Why, when and where?
Session 2:
Warm-ups and cool-down techniques
What is choreography? Designing movements to suit a purpose. The effective use
of space to express desired ideas. Creating a dance from the simple elements.
Session 3:
Exploring the concept of space (size, level, pathways, focus) and the concept
of time (speed, rhythm) through dancing games and folk dances.
Explaining math and language arts using those concepts.
Session 4:
Exploring the concept of force (energy, weight and flow).
Explaining science through dance concepts.
Session 5:
Dance as a tool for teaching using the multiple intelligences approach.
What questions to ask to allow students to explore their capacities?
How to lead the students into finding answers?
Session 6:
Exploring the arts through dance.
How to plan for an end-of-year show.
Session 7:
Folk, social and Jazz dances.
Building simple and complex choreographies to suit the age group and number
of students.
Session 8:
Dances for all occasions using big spaces and confined spaces, even while
seated on a chair.

Target Group
Teachers of all levels and of any subject.

The workshops will be held at International College, Bliss Street, Ras Beirut.
Fee
The fee is LL 200,000 per person for all eight sessions.

Participants may register upon completion of an application form and payment of fee at the Educational Resources Center office in Beirut, or sending a check payable to International College to the following address:

The ERC reserves the right to cancel or postpone the workshop in case of
emergency or low attendance.
