February 3,  8:30 – 14:00

Team Based Learning is a powerful teaching and learning strategy that is designed to help teachers to: (1) ensure coverage of basic subject area content in less than a third of the time required for lectures (or direct, frontal teaching) by creating incentives for pre-class preparation and opportunities for peer teaching, (2) build groups into learning teams with norms that promote high levels of individual preparation and class attendance, (3) design effective group assignments for teaching higher level thinking and problem solving skills, as well as (4) cope with the mechanics (e.g. physical layout, materials and exams, classroom procedures, grading, group work, etc.).  In a nutshell, TBL comprises three major teaching/learning phases, pre-class Readiness Assurance Process (individual and team tests), in-class team application tasks and assessment and feedback.

By the end of the workshop, participants will re-look at their roles as teachers in this new paradigm of teaching and acquire the confidence to make changes in their teaching and learning activities.
