International College is happy to offer a professional development program for teachers of Lebanese public and private schools, consisting of a wide variety of workshops covering all levels and various subject matter areas in English, French and Arabic.

 

The program is in line with the commitment of International College and its Educational Resources Center to high quality education which it seeks to promote throughout Lebanon.

 


REGISTRATION

Participants may register upon completion of an application form and payment of fees at the Educational Resources Center office in Beirut. 

The ERC office is open on school days from 7:30 to 15:00.  Since places are limited in each workshop, interested teachers are advised to register as early as possible.

The ERC reserves the right to cancel or postpone workshops in case of emergency or low attendance.

Venue

The workshops will be held at International College, Ras Beirut campus, Bliss Street.

Fees

LL 70,000 per participant for a ten-hour workshop
LL 40,000 per participant for a five-hour workshop
LL 20,000 per participant for a 2½ hour workshop
Payment of fees is required for registration.

The responsibility of a coordinator is to manage the team's work and maintain its cohesiveness, to prepare meetings, and to set discussion groups as well as to observe teachers and discuss teaching-learning situations. But how does the coordinator manage all this? Organization and planning is the key to proper leadership skills. This workshop will equip participants with tools and ideas for better planning and cues for running more focused meetings and classroom observations.

4. نشاطات فنيّة للمحافظة على البيئة

بعد الاطّلاع على شرعة المواطن البيئي اللبناني وبعد مشاهدة فيلمٍ عن المشاكل البيئية المتفاقمة العشوائية في العالم وفي لبنان، يعمل المشتركون والمشتركات على خلق نشاطات فنيّة تستخدم مواد معادة للتصنيع (ورق، بلاستيك،...).   هذه النشاطات تساعد المشترك على أن يوجّه التلاميذ الى تغيير أسلوب حياتهم من أجل تخفيض التلوث البيئي.

موجّه الى أساتذة في كل المستويات وخاصة الى أساتذة مادة الفنون.

5. Musical Stories

6. Je chante, je m’enchante et j’enchante

Plus qu’une fantaisie, la pratique musicale et le chant deviennent une nécessité pour l’épanouissement de l’enfant.

En utilisant une méthode globale, les enfants peuvent acquérir une bonne technique vocale et vivre également la musique à travers une approche corporelle très vivante, favorisant leur expression sensible et l’épanouissement de leur personnalité. Monter une chorale en classe devient possible, quelque soit les compétences du professeur concerné en suivant une approche pédagogique adaptée, claire et ludique à la fois.

8. Modern Arts in the Classroom

10. Music and Drama Workshop

Movement stories are tales told for the purpose of introducing and exploring movement concepts. At the same time, these stories are designed to appeal to a child’s sense of fun and imagination. These activities teach about settings, character, voice projection, stage presence and theater arts skills.  During this workshop, participants will learn how to create a musical show with their students and how to incorporate music and movement in order to express the character, the action and the mood. The participants will create their own music to accompany the different situations, using all kinds of percussions.

This workshop will focus on effective ways to help students become literate within a balanced literacy framework that provides for reading, writing, and language development. The presenter will introduce specific instructional approaches, including shared, guided and independent reading, interactive writing, writing as a process, and word study.

The workshop stresses the importance of teaching students strategies to use during and after reading as well as vocabulary building strategies. It will also touch upon assessment tools in reading.

18. The Importance of Poems and Rhymes in Language Learning

This workshop will help the participants recognize the different ways in which both poetry and rhyme help to enrich the child’s literate background. It will provide them with different resources and activities they could easily implement in their classroom to enhance the development of their students’ language skills.

19. Lessons from the Writer’s Workbench

Revision is one part of the writing process that deserves far greater attention than it gets. In this workshop, we will examine the tools and strategies available to teachers to empower student writers and help make revision a fundamental part of the writing process. In addition to taking full advantage of writing resources, such as “6 Traits + 1,” participants will engage in writing in order to apply revision techniques and reflect on assessment practices. The effective use of “journals” and “read alouds” will also be addressed.

Our Students are using the internet more and more for their class research projects. But are they really aware of the resources that can help them locate and use information from the internet? Can your students use search engines well and evaluate the websites they find? Are they able to cite their research sources accurately to avoid plagiarism? How can you help them?

In this workshop, participants will explore databases and search engines and learn to help students effectively search the web for their information needs. We will look at how help students evaluate websites they find and introduce participants to online tools that can help students easily create accurate source citation lists to avoid plagiarism.

30. School Library as the Heart of the School: Its Organization, Dewey Decimal Classification and its Role in Encouraging Reading and Activities

The Library is the heart of the school; school libraries contribute to achievement, literacy and culture. This workshop highlights the role of school libraries in nurturing lifelong readers. Many ideas and activities will be planned and examined on how to offer opportunities of reading and writing in the elementary school Library. The participants will be exposed, as well, to the process of classification (DDC) in the library. The workshop will focus on young readers (Age 6-10) and will provide participants with samples of library activities for grades one through five.

32. Technology in Mathematics

Geoplan/Geospace, Geogebra and Excel are software that can be used in Math to help students conjecture conclusions related to mathematical concepts.

Part I: Participants will be exposed to and learn how to use the different functions of these software.  This will be done through constructing geometrical figures and solving basic activities.

Part II: Participants will use the three software introduced in part one to solve different mathematical problems or deduce conclusions in geometry, statistics and algebra.

They will have the opportunity to create different kinds of puppets and will practice manipulating them. They will realize how easy and interesting it is to use puppets in their teaching while transforming stories into puppet shows.

This workshop focuses on assessment through the use of two tools: Rubrics and Performance Tasks. These are powerful tools to motivate the student to work towards a higher-level of performance.

Rubrics and Performance Tasks inform and improve teaching. They provide criteria used to determine excellent performance. They provide directions for teaching and goals for the students.

42. Enseigner “Les réactions chimiques”: Une approche alternative (1ère partie et 2ème partie)

1ère partie:

Au cours de ce stage de formation, l’approche utilisée à l’I.C. pour enseigner « Les réactions chimiques » sera présentée aux participants. Le plan du chapitre avec son rationnel, les stratégies d’enseignement, les méthodes de résolution des problèmes et les moyens d’évaluation vont être nettement démontrés.

2ème partie:

Les démonstrations et les travaux pratiques de laboratoire sont les instruments principaux de l’enseignement de la chimie. Ce stage vise à montrer comment le travail au laboratoire, en utilisant des expériences simples, peut améliorer l’efficacité de ces instruments et de plus montrer leur contribution pour une meilleure compréhension du concept des « réactions chimiques » chez les élèves. Il peut aussi approfondir leur connaissance des méthodes et de l’esprit scientifique ainsi que de la nature de la science.
