Fight smog

Another important component of the Planner, “Sharing The Planet,” is to make the students aware of those environmental threats that have a direct impact on their health and that of the planet.

Smog causes health problems such as difficulty in breathing, asthma, colds, eye irritation and reduced resistance to lung infections. The ozone in smog also can damage plants and trees, and the haze reduces visibility. Severe smog and ground level ozone problems exist in many major cities.

The 4th graders & CM1 students performed an experiment in which they created artificial “smog” in a jar. The purpose of this model was to illustrate the appearance and behavior of smog. The experiment helped students understand the health effects of smog on people, on plants and trees and what conditions exist to produce smog in the air.
